The Government of Alberta is undertaking the significant challenge of restoring thousands of kilometers of legacy seismic lines within caribou ranges. These seismic lines, remnants of past exploration activities, fragment critical caribou habitats and disrupt the species' natural patterns. Compliance with federal caribou guidelines necessitates a strategic and comprehensive approach to habitat restoration, aiming to support caribou population recovery and ensure biodiversity. This restoration effort involves reforesting linear disturbances, enhancing ecological connectivity, and employing innovative techniques to accelerate the natural regeneration of the impacted landscapes. By prioritizing these actions, the government demonstrates its commitment to preserving Alberta's natural heritage and meeting federal conservation targets.
